We are Janny and Hans Dekker and since June 4, 1987 the owners of the Wapen van Ilpendam. Janny, after her school ended in the hospitality branche and Hans, born in a pub in Ilpendam enjoyed his education in restaurant Neeltje Pater in Broek in Waterland, met eachother in the Miro where they worked together. Ilpendam was looking forward to a cafe in their town. Gerrit owner of cafe “The Box” wanted to sell his establishment but we were unable to agree. The other cafe in town was “Het Wapen van Ilpendam” where Jelle Walgreen was the owner. “It is for sale!!” Janny called nervously and said: “Het Wapen van Ilpendam is for sale!!” Within a week the whole family Dekker, Haan, and many friends were building and painting. The first beers were sold between the nails on the bar. The openings ceremony was done by Mayor Kerkhoven. Where he said “Hans, Janny, and this is the third time I open this property (first a flower shop for Han and Gre, then the cafe Jelle) and now and hopefully for the last time I do this for you two. We promised solemnly. Our daughter Marjolein has become a co-owner since 2018, of which we are extremely proud.
